Termite Damage
If you find anything that looks like this in your home, it will probably be termites. Many times the termites will eat up to the paint and stop leaving what looks like blistered up bubbles on your wall or trim. Many times in the spring when the termites are swarming, you may see areas like this where termites have come out into the home, making it easy to see what is going on. This small hole was in the sheet rock and only about 3/4 of an inch long and about 5 feet high on the wall. This house had about 8 of these holes where the swarming termites were coming into the house. Sometimes the termites will cover these holes with a mound of dirt up to 2 inches high. Old timers in our industry call these swarm castles. Here in the south we have swarmers in the spring. Swarmers are the new reproductive termites, being sent out to start new colonies. The swarmers are being forced out by the colony, this is just nature's survival of the fittest. They may slow down but all of the swarmers will emerge from the colony, usually in just a few days to a week or so.
Termite (Conditions Conducive)
The brick house you see below had several problems left over from the builder. Most of these were very minor problems and easy to correct. This 4x4 t that was used to hold the bricks up when they were installed is an area that we call Conditions Conducive.** The customer was very upset when we told her that we had to remove it. She told us that the bricks would come down. If your home is less than ten years old and has never been treated for termites after it was built, you do need to get an inspection and a termite treatment. Here in the South, it is not if you get termites It is when you get them. Termidor SC is America's #1 Termiticide and is what A&E Pest Control uses on a regular basis.**Conditions Conducive are areas that need to be corrected, like wood in contact with the ground, roots in crawl space, moisture in the crawl space are just a few examples.
On this house the board has to be removed. If this is not fixed it will create an avenue for termites to enter into your home. When A&E Pest Control treats your home for termites, we will remove this board, then dig a small trench around your home, we then will treat that trench with Termidor SC termiticide, America's #1 Termite Defense. On this house we had to treat to the depth of 4 feet because it is a basement. To accomplish this we dig a small trench and use our long rod to treat to this depth. This will take 16 gallons of finished product for every 10 feet we treat.
On most homes that are on a slab we use 4 gallons of finished product for every 10 feet, this will include the trenches, and the vertical drilling into your slabs. This is why a home that is 180 linear feet on the outside will use 72 gallons of finished product. |
Drilling for Termites
Drilling any slabs that butt up next to the home or business and inside the garage are a vital part of the termite treatment. The reason for drilling these holes is to put the Termidor SC under the slab where the termites can come into contact with the finished product. These holes are drilled no more than 12 inches apart. When you look at the drill holes and the trenches you will see that we have a complete barrier around your home. We need this barrier to be as complete as possible.There are times that we will drill these holes 12 to 14 inches away from the wall, the reason is, the footer is very wide and we are not going to drill through to the bottom of the footer. This would be against the label and common sense. When a pest control company has to drill a large number of holes in the slabs around your home or business, this can be very time consuming, this is the reason for some of the cost of your treatment. Most of the time the slab we drill average between 6 inches to 8 inches thick, but sometimes we run into slabs that are 18 or more inches thick, this can be rough on the person drilling and the drill itself. |
